Astead W. Herndon

Astead W. Herndon is national politics reporter for the New York Times and host of the NYT politics podcast, “The Run-Up.” He joined the Times in 2018 after previously working for The Boston Globe. His work — on politics, elections, and political division in the Trump era — has been recognized as a finalist for several journalism awards; including the Toner Prizes, Livingston Awards, and the Pulitzer Prizes. Earlier this year, Herndon’s profile of Vice President Kamala Harris, which ran on the cover of the New York Times Magazine, was nominated for a National Magazine Award in profile writing. Herndon is also a political analyst for CNN.
